On March 17, 1897, World Heavyweight Champion James J. Corbett defended his title against Robert Fitzsimmons at Carson City, Nevada. Fitzsimmons won the title stopping Corbett in the 14th round with his famous "solar plexus" punch. Offered here is an extremely rare souvenir tray from this event. The silver plated tray was manufactured in New York and measures 10 1/2" x 14." It pictures both fighters in full square-off pose against a backdrop of the famous Police Gazette Championship belt and lists their vital statistics. A few light scratches and some tarnishing, but overall in fine condition.
