On June 5, 1956 World Light Heavyweight Champion Archie Moore defended his title against Yolande Pompey in London. Moore was awarded the Lord Lonsdale Trophy for this victory which we are offering here. The trophy has a globe on an ornate base which is labeled, "LORD LONSDALE TROPHY PRESENTED BY THE BRITISH BOXING BOARD OF CONTROL (1929)."Atop the globe is a banner entitled, "CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE WORLD." This award is sterling silver and includes the sterling hallmarks on the base. The trophy rests upon a small wooden circular base. In beautiful condition with a small amount of tarnishing.
