A truly impressive collection of team signed baseballs from the collection of Jack Semel, one of those figures in baseball who labored behind the scenes to make the sport better. Semel worked for the Dodgers and championed racial integration in baseball; he created Jackie Robinson Day at Ebbets Field and was a longtime team supporter. Offered are eleven Brooklyn Dodgers team signed baseballs from Semel including a 1940 signed in blue and black ink by 18, HOFers include Reese and Medwick, toned and shellacked, signatures average a 6; 1943 ONL Frick signed in blue ink by 24, HOFers include Paul Waner, Lloyd Waner and Durocher, game used, signatures grade from 6 to 7; 1947 ONL Frick signed in green ink by 25, HOFers include Reese, Robinson, Snider and Vaughan, toned and used, signatures are fading and grade a 6; 1949 ONL Frick signed in blue ink by 19, HOFers include Reese, Robinson (CH) and Campanella as well as Newcombe (CH), toned, signatures grade a 9; 1950 ONL Frick signed in blue and black ink by 25, HOFers include Reese, Robinson, Campanella and Snider as well as Shotton (CH), toned, signatures show some fading and grade from 6 to 8 with the Robinson grading an 8; 1951 ONL Frick signed in blue and black ink by 18, HOFers include Reese, Robinson, Campanella and Snider (CH) as well as Dressen (CH), toned with spotting, signatures grade an 8; 1952 ONL Giles signed in blue ink by 26, HOFers include Reese, Robinson, Campanella and Snider (CH) as well as Dressen (CH), toned, signatures grade a 9; 1954 ONL Giles (labeled both 1952 (incorrect) and 1954) signed in blue ink by 25, HOFers include Robinson, Snider (CH), Alston, Reese and Lasorda, lightly toned, signatures grade a 9; 1956 ONL Giles signed in blue ink by 27, HOFers include Robinson, Alston, Campanella, Reese, Snider and Drysdale, very clean, signatures average 8 or better, numerous CH’s on this ball but Robinson and Campanella are definitely good; 1957 ONL Giles signed in blue ink by 26, HOFers include Snider (CH), Drysdale, Reese, Alston and Campanella, lightly toned, signatures grade an 8. There is also an undated 1950s Spring Traing ONL Giles signed in blue ink by Giants and Dodgers executives including HOFers Hubbell, Frisch, Cronin and Giles. There may be additional CH’s of commons or semi-stars on the balls, but not the Robinsons or Campanellas unless otherwise noted. Included are two original Spalding 12 count ball boxes and ten original wax bags with dates written on them.
