Best remembered by New Yorkers as the "Robin" to Mickey Mantle's "Batman" during their years as Yankees and kings of the city's nightlife scene, Billy Martin was also a fiery competitor whose emotions were just as likely to inspire as they were to erupt on the field of play. His .500 BA (12 hits) still stands as the highest ever in a six-game World Series and his endeavors as a manager will forever be the subject of legend. Presented is his 1958 Tigers flannel "home" jersey worn during his only season in Motor City. Its classic design includes Detroit's blue felt "D" team logo on the left breast and his number "1" on the verso. The tail has "Wilson [size] 40" tagging and a white felt plate chain-stitched with "W Martin 58". Overall, an incredibly well preserved jersey that displays only two minor (1/8") holes on the backside below the number and along the bottom of the button placket, where there is also light staining. All original.
