A graceful, left-handed first baseman, Torgeson was an immediate hit with the Braves as a rookie in 1947, batting .281 with 16 homers. One short year later he would be the single shining star on the Braves roster, leading all hitters with a .389 batting average, during their failed bid for the '48 World Series. Earlier that season though he donned this exquisite white satin "home" jersey sewn with "Braves" and the tomahawk logo on front, and his number "8" in brilliant red on back. Inside the collar is "Horace Partridge" and [size] "42" tagging, while "8118" is stamped in black inside the back tail. This remarkable relic, novel in even its own day, made the majority of its appearances during night games most likely due to breathability issues with the fabric, an issue that also explains the noticeable sweat staining found throughout. These minor discolorations act as testament to its use during its amazing, though, short lived career. An incredibly attractive item, completely absent of the heavy fraying and tears that are associated with uniforms of this type that is sure to make a welcomed addition to any high-end game used collection.
