A very scarce book of great historical interest, "Victories of the
Duke of Wellington", by Richard Westall, R.A. (Rodwell & Martin, London,
1819) is a masterly survey of Wellington's successful military campaign
against Napoleon. A 12 1/4" x 10" quarto bound in red morocco and boards, the 48-page volume features twelve vivid aquatints by noted painter and illustrator R. Westfall (1765-1836). Wellington's campaign, beginning in
1808 and ending decisively at Waterloo in 1815, is superbly captured and
chronicled by the twelve aquatints, with summary text serving as detailed
captions for each battle. Overall condition is VG-EX, with a tight binding.
This scarce volume has realized prices in excess of $3500, and will surely
be a centerpiece in any collection.
