Napoleon Lajoie, the man who made the Cleveland Indians into a real baseball team, sent Jim Davidson this government postcard with not one but two autographs. The postcard, dated in Lajoie’s hand 2-24-54, was postmarked Daytona Beach, FL. It was sent 5 years before his death when he was a feisty 80 years old. A bonus is that he signed it with his nickname “Larry”, which is rarer, once across the back and once on an attached photo of him in his prime at the left -- underneath a notation on the picture “.405”, which is odd given that he never hit that in any season (his best, .426 in 1901, is still an AL record). Signatures are 9/10 with the cancel marks touching only the “L” and “a” in Larry. Postcard is EX-MT.
