One of the saddest moments in NHL history was the death of Albert Charles "Babe" Siebert on August 25, 1939 at age 40. After retiring from an outstanding 14-year career spent mainly with two Montreal teams, the Maroons and Canadiens, Siebert was about to take over as the Habs coach when he drowned during a family vacation. The shock around the league was deeply felt, as Siebert was one of the most popular men in the game. He also left behind a wife who was paralyzed and needed financial aid. The NHL helped out by organizing the Babe Siebert Memorial Fund All-Star Game on October 29, 1939 at the Forum -- at the time the 3rd All-Star game ever to be played, after similar charity affairs honoring Ace Bailey in '34 and Howie Morenz in '37. This program from the Siebert game is one tough find, rarer than is the Morenz program. 9 x 12" program is filled with tributes and articles. White cover (with Siebert in his Canadiens uniform) is coming loose, otherwise the program is EX.
