Original sketch and painting tributes to Hall of Famer Ray Dandridge and deservee Jose Mendez bathe the two Negro League stars in a heroic aura -- and deservedly so. The 5 x 7" Rivadulla painting (EX) of Dandridge, a bow-legged third baseman who hit for average but hit his prime too early to make the majors, is a mini-masterpiece of browns, blacks and dapples of white on coarse posterboard. The artist signed on the front. Editor's notations are on the reverse, joining a Bohemia archive stamp from 1951. Bohemia is "the" major Cuban magazine and is where these were published. Cuban star Mendez is also rendered and signed by Rivadulla, an artist for Bohemia, this time in charcoal and lead on 8 x 9" coarse bond (EX-MT). It is an homage for a pitcher who belied his slight stature with a wicked fastball and now resides in the Cuban Hall of Fame. The penciled notation at the bottom reads: "Publicado Feb. 12 de 1950 Bohemia Ano 42 Num. 7."
