Staggeringly rare vintage photos of Clark Griffith in 3 different baseball guises during the early 1900s. By then "The Old Fox" had become quite a cause celebre, 1st as a storied pitcher who invented (so he claimed) the screwball, then a firebrand labor organizer who led a strike of NL players and induced many of them to jump to the new AL in 1901. For that, AL president Ban Johnson rewarded him with player-manager jobs with the White Sox in '01 and New York Highlanders (later Yankees) in '03. He returned to the NL in the same role with the Cincinnati Reds in '09, then flipped again to pilot the Washington Senators in '12 after purchasing control of the team. The original 5 x 7" wire photos later culled together by The Ring show Griffith in uniforms of the New York, Cincinnati and Washington clubs, looking all business. The Washington pic has the stamp of famous sports photographer Paul Thompson, the others are uncredited save for The Ring's stamp and have notes written in pencil on the back. Overall EX+.
