After Marilyn's suicide in August 1962, Warhol composed this, the first of several screenprints he did of the tragic actress, using slightly different versions of the same image -- a 1953 publicity photo from the movie "Niagara" -- across the print. Warhol described this silkscreen process as an "assembly line effect." The pop art impressario signed the famous print at the lower right with brown marker, a NRMT signature. The outer white area of the 23 x 28" print is slightly damaged and there's a tear on the upper border, o/w unblemished.
