As part of the most widely collected collected set of strip cards of the era, any W514 card of the great batsman Joe Jackson would surely get a rise out of collectors. But, when you factor in the fact that this is Jackson's ONLY appearance in any strip card issue, that seven of the eight "Black Sox" are pictured in the set, that Jackson really had so few cards of him for having such a spectacular career, that this was issued in the very years of the scandal (1919 - 1921) and that it's the highest graded and quite possibly finest known example, then you're really on to something! Here it is - a spectacle known to many but available to so few until now - an SGC Nm/Mt 88 copy of this fantastic card! Cut to perfection from the strip, the card easily warrants the altitude of the grade assigned to it. It's centered, unhandled and extremely sharp, with light bleedthrough on the otherwise blank and pristine reverse. The issues surrounding Joe Jackson are widely known and most people have their mind made up on his credibility and worthiness for the Hall of Fame - what's never at dispute was whether or not he was a great hitter. In 1911 he hit .408, only to finish behind a guy named Cobb who batted .420!
