Typed signed letter dated March 10, 1964 is signed in bold blue ballpoint by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Signature grades "10" out of a possible 10. An important and historic letter typed on 8.5 x 11" "Southern Christian Leadership Conference" letterhead, it is addressed to Mr. McCrary with regards to his nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize: "Please accept my deep appreciation for your kind letter in referenece to my being chosen by TIME magazine as its Man of the Year, and nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize... I must say that I sincerely feel that these particular recognitions are not honors to be enjoyed by me personally, but rather a tribute to the entire civil rights struggle..." A most pertinent letter from this famed period in Dr. King's civil rights movement, in which he at age 35 (the youngest person ever to be awarded the honor) announced that he would turn over the prize money of $54,123 for his Nobel Prize selection, to the furtherance of the civil rights movement. Letter is Near Mint. Comes with cover of the TIME magazine (March 19, 1965) in which the article was printed.
