Decades before he would be dubbed, "The Miracle Worker", Gil Hodges made his debut in the Major Leagues as a third baseman. A nineteen year old Hodges struck out twice and walked, playing in just one game for the Dodgers, then joined the Marines. He would return in 1947, playing the position of catcher. This rare piece of game equipment was worn by Hodges, and is quite remarkable, as Hodges' stint as a catcher was very short lived. After Roy Campanella joined the team, Hodges was immediately moved to first base. And the rest is history... The mask is completely intact with all its original padding and head strap. Originally from the Gil Hodges Estate and later the Charlie Sheen Collection.
