This marvelous 3-page letter from Roberto Clemente to Pirates GM, Joe Brown sheds light on his arm injury of 1959, giving incite into the relationship between Mr. Brown & the Puerto Rican superstar. Dated June 18, 1959, written in blue ink, it reads in part: “Dear Joe: …I write this to you to tell you what I am doing here in home. I went to see the doctor who took care of my back before and he took one little X-ray of my arm. Immediately he said that my trouble is that I have calcium in it. He said that he doesn’t know how the doctor there didn’t see this before. I took the X-rays to see 2 more doctors and they said the same. Well the 3 doctors said that I need at least 10 to 12 treatment. I have only 3 because the treatment are too strong. I suppose to be in Pittsburgh the 26 and I can’t get enough treatment. I would like to know soon if you want me to come back for the 26 or if you want me to take the other treatment. My arm look better but the doctor said not to throw for a while. So you are the boss and you tell me what to do. I would like to stay because I am getting well but if you don’t want I go back immediately. I think that one extra week be enough. Thank you and said hello to the boys…Roberto.” Pages measure 5x8”. EX-MT condition. Comes with the surgeon’s report of personal injury regarding Clemente’s arm, plus the response letter from Joe Brown to Clemente.
