Displayed is a metal folding chair from Forbes Field. The stadium was the first concrete and steel stadium in the National League. The venue, which opened in 1909, was built in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh and lasted as the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates through June 28, 1970. The field also was the home field for five undefeated University of Pittsburgh Panthers teams. The NFL's Pittsburgh Pirates, who became the Pittsburgh Steelers, also were long-time residents of the field. From 1922-39, Forbes Field was a home field for the famous Homestead Grays, of the Negro Leagues, with six National Baseball Hall of Famers, including Josh Gibson and Satchel Paige playing for the Grays. The Pittsburgh Pirates played parts of three World Series at Forbes Field, including the 1960 World Championship when Pittsburgh beat the New York Yankees in seven games, with the only Game 7 walkoff home run in history being hit by Hall of Famer Bill Mazeroski. Inaugural Hall of Famer Honus Wagner was a long-time player and coach at Forbes Field. Great Hall of Famers Roberto Clemente and Willie "Pops" Stargell became legends at Forbes Field. The stadium also hosted boxing, Billy Conn, a Pittsburgh native, in his successful Light Heavyweight World Championship defense against Melio Bettina in 1939, and a World Heavyweight Championship bout in 1951, when Jersey Joe Walcott defeated Ezzard Charles.

The offered dark blue chair has a working, folding seat measuring approx. 15.5x18". The chair is approx. 34.25" in height. It is not known exactly where the chair was in use at Forbes Field. The offering exhibits great use. There is some paint loss, chipping, scuffing, scratch marks, and some minor rust in small spots. On the top of the seat area are two approx. 4" long areas in which tape was removed at some point. On the lower portion of the front chair back is a plaque, very likely added after the chair's use at Forbes Field. The plaque reads, "FORBES FIELD/HOME OF THE PITTSBURGH PIRATES." The chair weighs approx. 11 lbs.
