Displayed is a press pin for the 1951 All-Star Game, held on July 10th at Briggs Stadium, the home of the Detroit Tigers. Eddie Sawyer, of the Philadelphia Phillies, managed the National League and the New York Yankees' Casey Stengel managed the American League. The National League won the game 8-3, with Sal Maglie of the New York Giants besting Eddie Lopat, of the New York Yankees. Stan Musial, of the St. Louis Cards, Bob Elliott, of the Boston Braves and Gil Hodges, of the Brooklyn Dodgers hit home runs for the National League. Hitting four-baggers for the AL were Vic Wertz and George Kell, both of the home team Detroit Tigers. Homering for the NL were the St. Louis Cards' Stan Musial, Bob Elliott, and the Brooklyn Dodgers' Gil Hodges. Ty Cobb threw out the first pitch and a moment of silence was held for renowned Detroit Tigers player and broadcaster Harry Heilmann, who had passed away on the day before the game. Shortstop Chico Carrasquel, of the Chicago White Sox became the first Latin American player to appear in baseball's All-Star Game.
The press pin reads "1951 All-Star/Briggs Stadium." It is not known to whom the press pin was issued. The pin measures approx. 0.75" in diameter and it has a screw-in clasp on back. The press pin is in EXCELLENT condition.
