Johnson was a corner infielder and left fielder who played 16 Major League seasons for nine teams. Most notable: Cincinnati Reds (1964-67), Philadelphia Phillies (1969-73), Oakland Athletics (1973-74), and Boston Red Sox 1974-76. For his MLB career, Johnson batted .244, with 245 home runs. He was a 1973 World Champion with the Oakland Athletics. Deron had some power packed seasons: He swatted 32 home runs and drove in a NL leading 130 runs for the Cincinnati Reds in 1965. In 1971, he hit 34 home runs and 95 RBIs for the Phillies. However, when Johnson game wore the offered jersey in 1976, he played in 15 games for the Red Sox, and struggled with his batting, going 6-for-38. After his playing career, he became a long-time Major League batting coach.
