Rare, one-of-a-kind Pete Maravich basketball uniform worn by the NBA Hall of Famer during his role as a member of the Army basketball team in the 1979 theatrical film "Scoring." (The film was originally titled "Dribble" during production but was released with the title "Scoring.") This uniform was first introduced to the hobby community on the March 17, 2025, episode of Antiques Roadshow (Link: https://www.pbs.org/video/appraisal-new-england-federal-card-table-ca-1800-whckoc/), where it was appraised for $10,000-$15,000. As noted in the interview with our consignor, this uniform has been in his possession since the time of the movie. He has also provided a signed letter of provenance detailing the uniform's history.

As he states in his letter, the movie "Scoring" was produced by George Nissan, who was the owner of the Iowa Cornets, a member of the newly formed Women's Professional Basketball League (WBL), which was in existence from 1978 to 1981. Nissan produced the movie as a promotional piece for women's basketball. The plot involved a women's professional basketball team playing and defeating the Army basketball team. Maravich was a member of the Army team in the film and the offered uniform was the one he wore during the entire production. The movie may be hard to find today, but the trailer is available on the IMDB website, where one can see Maravich wearing this uniform (link: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0314625/?ref_=fn_all_ttl_1).

Our consignor was an assistant coach for the Iowa Cornets at the time. He not only appeared in the film as a referee, but he also worked for the sporting goods company that supplied the uniforms for the production. After the filming, he kept this uniform specifically because it was worn by Maravich. As any advanced basketball collector knows, Pete Maravich college or NBA game-worn jerseys are exceedingly rare, not to mention cost prohibitive for most people (a Pete Maravich game-worn LSU jersey recently sold at auction for $176,000 earlier this year). This uniform, while not worn in an actual game, was worn by Maravich on the court and is probably the next best alternative for collectors who either cannot find or are unable to afford a true Maravich gamer.

The white knit jersey is lettered "Army" across the front and features the number "22" on the front and reverse. All lettering is applied in green tackle twill. The manufacturer's tag has been removed from the collar. The green shorts feature a "Southern Atlantic" manufacturer's tag bearing the size "L." Both garments display moderate wear and are in overall Excellent condition. Accompanied by a Letter of Provenance from the consignor.
