Presented is the chance to own a one-of-a-kind item that hung in Mickey Mantle's Restaurant, on Central Park South in Manhattan in New York City. It shows Rose, the all-time hit king, with 4,138 lifetime hits, posing with Mantle, the all-time switch-hitting home run hitter with 536 round-trippers. Their hands wind around the bat handle in the way that kids used to do when competing for who would have first choice of the sandlot players in a choose-up game or have last at-bats in a fun contest. Mickey Mantle's Restaurant opened in 1988 and closed in 2012. It was right next to the St. Moritz Hotel, now the Ritz-Carlton, where Mantle lived at one time when he was in New York City. Catering mostly to sports fans and tourists, the food was generally informal, such as hamburgers and chicken-fried steak. Many events and press conferences were held in Mantle's, as were numerous radio and television specials. An extensive collection of sports memorabilia was displayed, including this signed and inscribed photograph. Mantle, who passed away in 1995, would sometimes be in the restaurant, greeting fans and signing autographs, in the early years of the establishment.
Rose wrote on the photo, "To Mick, Good luck at Mantle's/Pete Rose." Mantle wrote, "To Pete/Anyone who has over 4000 hits had to be pretty good/Mickey Mantle." Each of the signatures is 8/10 in blue Sharpie. The photo as framed measures 20.25x16.25". The offering comes with a PSA LOA for the signatures. The offering is in EXCELLENT condition. We have never seen anything like it that relates to the two greats - you will never find another.
