Collection of souvenirs dating from the dedication of the Baseball Hall of Fame on June 12, 1939. This collection has special significance because it also serves as provenance for the extraordinary signed Hall of Fame induction program featured in this auction. Our consignor's parents attended the dedication and like many of the guests that day, came home with several souvenirs from that historic day. One was the program, while the other three are offered together here in this lot. 1) Ticket Stub. "General Admission" ticket stub issued for the first "Hall of Fame Game" held at Doubleday Field on June 12, 1939. The ticket (5.5x2.75") displays moderate creasing throughout and a light stain along the base. 2) First Day Cover. The envelope features a three-cent "Centennial of Baseball" stamp and is postmarked "Cooperstown Jun 12 1939." Addressed to our consignor's father in his father's hand. The envelope (6.5x3.75") displays light creasing and a small stain in the lower right corner. 3) Ashtray. Square glass ashtray displaying a "Centennial of Baseball" motif at the base, including an illustration of Abner Doubleday and the exterior of the Baseball Hall of Fame. 4.25x4.25". Normal wear, but no chips or cracks as is commonly found on this piece.
