Nolan Ryan was a Hall of Fame pitcher who began his Major League career with the New York Mets and appeared in a lifetime 807 games, starting 773 of them, in route to 324 wins, but he made his World Series debut as a reliever - and earned a save. Presented is an Oct. 14, 1969, World Series Game 3 Nolan Ryan signed ticket stub from the contest at Shea Stadium in New York City when the home team New York Mets defeated the Baltimore Orioles, 5-0. Gary Gentry started for the Mets and left after 6.2 innings with a 4-0 lead. The Mets had scored on a Tommy Agee bases empty home run, a Jerry Grote double, and a 2-run double by Gentry. Ryan pitched the final 2.1 innings, giving up only one hit, allowing a pair of walks and striking out three. The Mets went on to win the World Series for the team's first World Championship and earning forever the nickname of "The Miracle Mets."
The stub measures approx. 2.25x5.1". It reads, in part, "WORLD SERIES/SHEA STADIUM/Game 3 1969 World Series/Shea Stadium/Loge Reserved $10.00." Ryan used a fine tip blue marker to sign a bold, neat signature. The signed stub has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA CERTIFIED "VG3/AUTO 9."
