Presented is an Oct. 2, 1968, World Series Game 1 ticket stub signed by St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame right-hander Bob Gibson, who shut out the visiting Detroit Tigers 4-0 before 54,692 at Busch Memorial Stadium. Gibson pitched his entire 17 MLB career for St. Louis. The 9-time All-Star was a 2-time World Champion, a 2-time NL Cy Young winner, once in this '68 season when he was also the NL MVP. Gibson had a lifetime 251 wins with a 2.91 ERA. In blanking Detroit, Gibson fanned an incredible 17 batters while scattering five hits. The Cardinals defeated Denny McLain on RBIs by Mike Shannon, Julian Javier (2), and Lou Brock, on a bases empty home run. Detroit took the World Series in seven games.
The offered ticket stub measures approx. 2.6x4.75". It reads, in part, "1968 World Series/GAME 1/BUSCH MEMORIAL STADIUM/ST. LOUIS NATIONAL BASEBALL CLUB, INC./TERRACE RESERVED $8.00." The tear at the top of the stub is slightly irregular. The stub has been encapsulated and "PSA/DNA CERTIFIED AUTHENTIC." Gibson signed the stub in a blue, fine tip marker, 8/10 signature. The stub exhibits some slight darkening along the edges, but is in otherwise EXCELLENT condition.
