I like to live as big as I can," said the Sultan of Swat. Truer words were never spoken. The Babe often did hit big, long holding both the single-season (60) and career (714) Major League home run records. Yes, the Babe always lived big, on-and-off the field. This trait carried over to his autographs. A natural left-hander, Babe was converted to writing right-handed at St. Mary's Industrial School for Boys, in Baltimore. The Ruthian autograph is a lot like his swing: Big and beautiful. Fans didn't get a hurried scribble of a signature from Ruth. Instead, The Bambino gave a fine effort, signing the offered ball on the sweet spot, crafting a flowing signature in black ink from a steel-tip fountain pen. The signature's circa 1927-31 date matches Ernest Barnard's term of office as the American League President. During '27-'31, Ruth AVERAGED 51 homers a season, bashing his record 60 clouts in 1927, and totaling 255 four-baggers from 1927-31.

The ball has red and blue stitching. There are a number of stains on the ball, but Ruth's signature is not affected by the stains. The ball exhibits a general overall, moderate darkening.
