Offered is the opportunity to possess a signed greeting card from Eamon De Valera, a revolutionary hero of Ireland and one of the country's most influential leaders. Eamon De Valera was an American born Irish patriot and politician who served Ireland as "Taoiseach" (Prime Minister) for three periods: 1932-48, 1951-54, and 1957-59. He also served two complete terms as the President of Ireland (1959-73). His mother was born in Limerick County, Ireland, but came to live in New York, and later married Edmund De Valera's father, thought to be from Spain. Edmund De Valera was a leader of the Easter Rising revolution of 1913, as the Commandant of Irish Volunteers (Third Battalion), and he was jailed and came close to being executed by the British afterwards. Most likely that fact that he was born in New York, New York, (in 1882) and retained his American citizenship helped to save his life. He made Ireland neutral during World War II but secretly helped Britain and the United States with espionage. De Valera was the President of Sinn Fein in 1917 and founded the Fianna Fail party in 1926. He passed away in 1975.

The offered greeting card measures 3.25x5.4". On one side is machine printed, "With the Compliments of The Taoiseach," and the other side has the machine printed Irish translation of the just aforementioned greeting, reading "Le Deigh-Mheinn An Taoisigh." On the side of the card with the greeting in Irish, an unknown hand has written, in black fountain ink, "Prime Minister of Ireland/1944." Eamon De Valera, using black fountain ink, under the Irish greeting, signed his name in a meticulously scripted hand. The side of the card with the greeting in Gaelic and the offered signature, has some darkening, patches of uneven shades, and a few small stains. The side of the card with the greeting in English has uneven shades, some small stains and darkening and what may be glue or mucilage remnants from the card being attached to a page of a scrapbook. The signed greeting card has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA Certified (85511789) "AUTHENTIC AUTO."
