Amelia Earhart achieved lasting fame as the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Displayed is a signed photo of the world's most famous woman aviator. Earhart was born in Atchison, Kansas, in 1897, and spent most of her childhood and adolescence moving around the country because of the unstable marriage of her parents. She became consumed with flying, and she spent much of her hard-earned money on flying lessons. In 1928, she became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Her fame jumped exponentially, and she won many honors. She wrote books about flying, and she promoted women's fashions.

In 1937, she attempted to become the first woman to fly solo as she circumnavigated the globe. She and her navigator, Fred Noonan had completed all but 7,000 miles of the trip when she and Noonan disappeared off the coast of Howland Island, in the central Pacific Ocean. It is the consensus view that Earhart's Lockheed Model 10-E Electra airplane ran out of fuel and that the plane crashed into the ocean, but many theories still exist, including one theory that she survived the crash and lived out her life under an assumed name, and another theory that at this pre-World War II time that she was possibly killed by the Japanese. The wreckage of her plane has never been located. Earhart has posthumously been inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame and the National Women's Hall of Fame.

The offered signed 3.6x3.8" photograph appears as if it was clipped from a newspaper or magazine. The photograph depicts Earhart and another, unidentified, female pilot holding an aviation award. In black ink, Earhart scripted her signature on the photo. The signed photo has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA Certified (85511785) as "AUTHENTIC AUTO." In pencil, an unknown hand has printed "Amelia Earhart/Aviatrix" on back. The photo has a vertical fold down the middle and is in otherwise EXCELLENT condition.
