Babe Ruth learned three main skills from his childhood and adolescent education at St. Mary's Industrial School for Boys in Baltimore, Maryland, and one of those skills was his ability to craft beautiful handwriting. Ruth once again demonstrated his gorgeous signature on this offering, a cut signature, in blue fountain ink, on a 3x4.25" section cut from an album page. Ruth used his left arm to become the American League's best southpaw pitcher, with a 94-46 career record and 2.28 lifetime ERA. Ruth was a left-handed batter, with his 714 home runs a long-lasting record in baseball. In 1918, while still with the Boston Red Sox, Ruth led the AL in home runs, with 11, while going 13-7 on the mound, with a 2.22 ERA. But while Ruth was a natural left-hander, his teachers at St. Mary's followed the custom of the times and had Ruth learn to write with his right hand. The Bambino was at times a sloppy eater and drinker, but when it came to signatures, he was graceful, flowing, and meticulous.

What were the other two main skills that Babe learned at St. Mary's? He learned tailoring, and would often mend his own shirts, displaying the sewing skills of a professional. The third skill Ruth learned at St. Mary's was playing baseball. Playing on three different teams at St. Mary's, Ruth often played 40 or more games a month for eight months; a total of more than 300 a season.

The Ruth signature, bold and written as an exemplar of an autograph, has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA Certified (85511784) "AUTHENTIC AUTO." The signed cut, on paper or light card stock, has a pinkish hue and may have been once been a red color that has faded over time. Nevertheless, the cut signature is in EXCELLENT condition.
