Displayed is a 1997 game worn Joe Torre New York Yankees home jersey. Torre is the only person to have had 2,000 hits as a player (2,342) and 2,000 wins as a manager (2,326). A catcher, first baseman, and third baseman as a player, he played for the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the New York Mets. He batted a career .297 with 252 home runs. In 1971, Torre had his best season as a player as he was the NL MVP with the Cardinals when he led the Major Leagues in batting average (.363), hits (230), and RBIs (137). He was a 9-time All-Star He managed five teams: New York Mets, Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees, and Los Angeles Dodgers. His greatest success as a manager came with the Bronx Bombers, where his teams won six pennants and four World Series. Torre is a Hall of Famer and currently works as a special assistant to the Commissioner of Baseball.
The offered jersey is white with navy blue pinstripes and a navy blue interlocking NY on the left chest. Six silver buttons run down the front. The outside left tail has five tags: 1) A Russell Athletic manufacturer's tag; 2) Diamond Collection tag showing size 46; 3) 100% polyester; 4) 2" extra length; 5) "TORRE 97" year. On back is a navy blue 7.5" sewn-on number "6." The jersey shows light wear, and it is in EXCELLENT condition.
