Presented is a 1912 Chicago Cubs panorama photograph, depicting an unknown game at the Cubs' home field, the West Side Grounds, with individual composite photos of the Cubs' players surrounding the playing field photo. In 1912, the Cubs had a record of 91-52, finishing in third place in the National League. The team was skippered by player-manager Frank Chance, a future Hall of Famer, and a first baseman who was inducted into the Hall of Fame with the two other members of the famed double play making trio, shortstop Joe Tinker and second baseman Johnny Evers. In 1912, Chance only played himself in two games, going 1-for 5. Joe Tinker batted .282, and Johnny Evers batted .341. Another player on the '12 Cubs who would later enter the Hall of Fame was Mordecai "Three-Finger" Brown, who was 35 years old in '12, and had a 5-6 pitching record with a 2.64 ERA that season.
The panorama photo measures a visible, approximate 10x28", framed to 13x31" in its original frame. In addition to the four aforementioned Hall of Famers (Tinker, Evers, Chance, and Brown), the individual, oval, 1.8"-high photos that encircle the field photo include: Fred Toney, a right-handed pitcher; Fred Schulte, a center fielder; Tommy Leach, an outfielder/third baseman; Chicago Cubs team President Charles Murphy. The photo has a few light stains and some areas with faint splotches. The frame has some chipping, some scratches and some paint loss. With its individual photos of Hall of Famers and the background of the Cubs' early 20th Century home field - the West Side Grounds - the offering has definite vintage charm.
