Presented is a 1959 Charlie Conerly signed and inscribed government postcard from the NFL East Division Championship season of the famed New York Giant quarterback. Conerly played college football at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). He interrupted his college play to serve in the U.S. Marines during World War II, where he participated in the Battle of Guam. After the war, he returned to Ole Miss and led the team to its first SEC Championship in 1947. He played 14 seasons in the NFL, all for the New York Giants. The 2-time Pro Bowler threw for 19,488 yards in the NFL, with 173 touchdown passes, and he took the New York Giants to the 1956 NFL Championship. In 1959, when Conerly signed the card, he had an 8-1 record as he led the Giants to the NFL Championship Game, in which the Giants lost to the Baltimore Colts. For a time, Conerly appeared in national advertisements for Marlboro Cigarettes, as he portrayed the rugged Marlboro Man, often on horseback.

The postcard measures 3.25x5.5". The front of the postcard has some stains and paper loss, but enough of the postmark remains to show that the postcard was mailed in 1959 from New York, N.Y. and sent to an address in Birmingham, Michigan. On the back of the postcard, Conerly used blue ballpoint ink to write and inscribe, "My best wishes/Charlie Conerly," in neatly written big and bold script. The back of the postcard shows a few small stains, and a band of darkening on the left side and the bottom, but this darkening is below and to the side of any of Conerly's writing. The offering has been encapsulated and it is PSA/DNA CERTIFIED AUTHENTIC AUTO.
