"[Benny Friedman] was the Johnny Unitas of his day," said Wellington Mara, the former owner of the New York Football Giants. Offered is a Benny Friedman signed government postcard. Friedman was a two-time consensus All-American at the University of Michigan as a quarterback. He played eight seasons in the NFL, at quarterback and defensive back: Cleveland Bulldogs (1927); Detroit Wolverines (1928), New York Giants (1929-31), Brooklyn Dodgers (1932-34). At a time when the football was much rounder than that of today, Friedman helped to revolutionize the passing game by frequently passing on first and second downs, unusual in that era. At his retirement as a player, his total of 66 career passing touchdowns was the highest in NFL annals.

The offered postcard measures 3x5". Typed on the top of the blank side: "Friedman, Benny." Typed or machine printed on the bottom of the blank side: "All-American QB - Michigan 1925 & 26." On the blank side, in blue ink, most likely from a fountain pen, Friedman inscribed and signed, "Sincerely Benny Friedman." Handprinted in pencil by an unknown hand, the blank side has "27" in the upper right corner. The front of the postcard is addressed to a person in Detroit, Michigan, and the postcard is postmarked "APR 21/7 PM/1952/WALTHAM/MASS." The postcard shows some darkening, but in an amount to be expected from its over seven decades age. Aside from the typical darkening, the postcard is in EXCELLENT condition. The offering has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA CERTIFIED "AUTHENTIC AUTO."
