Phil Regan, known as "the Vulture," was a Major League pitcher, mainly as a reliever, from 1960-72: Detroit Tigers (1960-65), Los Angeles Dodgers (1966-68), Chicago Cubs (1968-72), Chicago White Sox (1972). Presented is a 1984 Phil Regan Seattle Mariners game worn home jersey from Regan's time (1984-86) with Seattle as the team's pitching coach. Regan, a right-hander, had a 94-81 lifetime record with a 3.84 ERA and 92 saves. Regan earned his greatest playing fame in 1966 with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The team had a terrific starting staff: Koufax, Drysdale, Osteen, and Sutton. Thus, Regan found a home in the bullpen. He had a tremendous season: a 14-1 record, a 1.62 ERA and a National League leading 21 saves. He earned his "the Vulture" nickname from Sandy Koufax as Regan kept picking up wins by "swooping down" and picking up a win after the Dodger starter pitched 5 to 8 innings of great baseball, and Regan picked up the win in relief. Regan was a pitching coach for five teams, with his last Major League club being the 2019 New York Mets, on which Regan finished the season as the team's 82-year-old interim pitching coach.

The offered jersey has "Mariners" across the chest in blue sewn-on letters with gold trim. On the left chest is "27" in blue sewn-on numerals with gold trim. On back is a white sewn-on nameplate, with "REGAN" in blue sewn-on letters. Below the nameplate is "27" in sewn-on blue numerals with gold trim. On the underside of the front left tail is a Rawlings manufacturer's tag and an adjacent tag reading "SET 1 1983." Although the jersey is tagged for "1983," Regan wore the jersey in '84, his first season as the Seattle pitching coach. There is a number change under the "2" on front and back: the "7" is original. The jersey exhibits light use and has a few tiny stains, but is in overall EXCELLENT condition.
