Displayed is a 1972-73 Chicago Blackhawks Clarence S. Campbell Bowl that was awarded to the team's trainer, Louis Varga. The Clarence S. Campbell Bowl was named to honor its namesake, a man who refereed in the NHL in the 1930s, served in the Canadian army during World War II, and was the NHL's third president, serving from 1946-77. The Campbell Bowl has been awarded to the following: NHL West Division regular season champions (1967-74), West Conference regular season champions (1974-81), Campbell Conference Playoff champions (1981-93), and West Conference playoff champions (1993-2020 & 2021-present). The 1972-73 Blackhawks were 46-17-15 in the regular season to be the West Conference regular season champions. Hall of Famer Bobby Hull led the team's scoring with 50 goals and 43 assists for 93 points that season, and Hall of Fame goalie Tony Esposito won the Vezina Trophy with a 1.77 GAA. The faux wood hexagonal base has a base width of 4". The award is 10.75" in height, and it weighs 34.5 ounces. Engraved on the trophy: Chicago Blackhawks/1972 - 1973/Louis Verga - Trainer. (note: The name of Louis Varga was misspelled as Verga). The bowl (trophy) was presented to Louis Varga, and it was originally obtained from Varga himself. The bowl exhibits some speckling and chipping, some light tarnishing, some scratches and surface loss.
