Rare "Order of the Leather Helmet" 10k gold pin presented to Hall of Fame film producer Ed Sabol in 1987. This is the first example of this pin we have ever seen, let alone offered. The "Order of the Leather Helmet" award was presented annually between the years 1978 and 2008 by the NFL Players Alumni Foundation to those individuals who made significant contributions to professional football. In addition to receiving a trophy (a leather helmet mounted upon a large base) recipients also received a lapel pin confirming their membership in that elite fraternity. The offered pin, which is designed in the shape of a leather football helmet, features a single real diamond in the ear hole, with the lettering on the helmet reading "Order of the Leather Helmet." Stamped "10K" on the reverse. This pin originates directly from Ed Sabol's longtime personal assistant, who is the source for all the Ed Sabol personal items featured in this auction.
