Real-photo postcard capturing eleven members of the New York Giants posing with members of the "Miami" ball club during spring training. The most easily recognizable Giants players are Christy Mathewson, Hooks Wiltse, and Buck Herzog. Although the postcard has not been addressed or mailed, it can easily be dated to the spring of 1912 because the Giants are wearing their special black uniforms that were made for use during the 1911 World Series (the only time the players wore those uniforms was in the 1911 World Series and the following year in spring training). This piece has a unique provenance. It has been consigned directly by a family member of one of the Miami players pictured in the back row. This is a rare New York Giants/Mathewson photo and the first such example we have ever seen. The postcard (5.5x3.5") displays a tiny tear along the top border, light staining in the lower right corner, and several moderate creases.
