Pittsburgh Pirates road jersey worn by outfielder Maurice Van Robays during the 1946 season. This is a scarce style jersey that was worn by the Pirates only during the five-year span 1942-1946. It is also the first such example we have ever handled. The gray flannel zipper-front jersey is lettered "Pittsburgh" across the front and features the number "7" on the reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in red on blue felt. A "MacGregor 46" label appears in the collar. The year, "'46," is chain-stitched in red on a small white strip tag located on the interior left front tail. (Research confirms that Maurice Van Robays was the only player to wear number "7" for the Pirates in 1946.) The jersey is original as issued and displays moderate wear. The zipper remains fully functional. Maurice Van Robays spent his entire six-year Major League career with the Pirates, with 1946 marking his final season with the club. This is an exceptional 1946 Pirates jersey and one that would be a welcome addition to any advanced Pittsburgh Pirates or Major League jersey collection.
