Presented is a Gil Hodges Type I photograph by famed photographer William Jacobellis that was used for Hodges' 1954 Red Man Tobacco image, card #22. The Red Man cards were premiums, aimed for adults buying tobacco who were encouraged to save the cards or "give them to your sons." The cards measured 3.5x3.6" after the cut-off tabs had been removed. Collecting the complete set of tabs was good for a baseball cap. Hodges is the Dodgers' legendary first baseman on the club's great 1950s Brooklyn Dodgers, winners of NL pennants in 1952, '53, '55, and '56, with the Dodgers' only World Championship in 1955. Hodges was regarded as baseball's best fielding first baseman in the 1950s, and only Duke Snider has more home runs and RBIs in the decade. The offered photograph measures 4x5". On back is the stamp of William Jacobellis and "Gil Hodges" written in blue ink by an unknown hand. The original Red Man photos were used as a basis for wonderful, colored artistic images by an unknown artist. The photo has been encapsulated and PSA Certified as "TYPE I AUTHENTIC." The photo is in EXCELLENT condition. The Red Man cards often slipped under the radar as Topps and Bowman battled for baseball card supremacy in the 1950s, and the beautiful images on the  RedMan sets, with 50 cards and four variations, make this Type I photo a great, vintage collectible.
