Presented is a 1951 Minnie Minoso original contact Type I William Jacobellis photograph, one used for Minoso's 1952 Bowman card. Saturnino Orestes "Minnie" Armas Arrieta Minoso was the first black Cuban player in the Major Leagues. Minnie played for the New York Cubans as a third baseman in the Negro National League from 1946-48, and he broke into the Major Leagues with the 1949 Cleveland Indians. He was the 1951 AL Rookie of the Year. Minnie initially played in the Major Leagues until 1964, including three tours with the Chicago White Sox and two tours with the Cleveland Indians. A 9-time All-Star, mostly as a left fielder, he batted a career .299, with 195 home runs and 216 stolen bases. He was a 3-time AL leader in steals and won three Gold Gloves. Always a popular player, he made special, pinch-hitting appearances in both 1976 and 1980 for the White Sox in order to allow him to officially play in another two decades. Thus, he finished his Major league career by appearing in five decades, and he was only the third major leaguer to get a hit after the age of fifty years old. Later, Minoso played in independent baseball, appearing for the Northern League's St. Paul Saints in the 1990s and in 2003 to give him the all-time record for appearing in professional baseball in seven decades! The photo measures approx. 3.8x4.9". The item exhibits some minor chipping around the edges, with one tiny spot on the photo itself. The photo has been encapsulated and PSA Certified as "TYPE I AUTHENTIC." The back of the photo has the stamp of famous sports photographer William N. Jacobellis, of New York City. The Bowman 1952 card #5 was made as a painted version of the original black and white photo, and the card has wonderful, vivid detail.
