Displayed is the 1957-64 Detroit Red Wings Most Improved Player Award. This is the perpetual trophy that was kept at the arena. It has all players' names on who won from 1957-58 through 1963-64. The wood and metal trophy has a 1.25x7.5" plaque in the top half of the trophy that reads, "WING TEENS' MOST IMPROVED PLAYER." On the lower half, a second plaque, measuring 2.5x8.4", lists the years and names of the awards: "1957-58-Forbes Kennedy; 1958-59-Red Kelly; 1959-60-Gary Aldcorn; 1960-61-Pete Goegan; 1961-62-Alex Delvecchio; 1962-63-None Presented; 1963-64-Bruce MacGregor." Two of the aforementioned "Most Improved Player" winners became Hall of Famers: Red Kelly, a defenseman and center who was an 8-time Stanley Cup winner in the NHL and had 281 goals and 542 assists for 823 points; Alex Delvecchio, a center who was a 3-time Stanley Cup winner who scored 456 goals and added 825 assists for 1,281 points. The trophy measures 5x9.2" at the base, and it has a height of approx. 24.5". The award has a few minor imperfections - with some chipping on the wood, some slight tarnishing, spotting and surface loss - but the offering remains in overall EXCELLENT condition.
