Displayed is a Ted Williams ".406" signed and inscribed Upper Deck limited edition Official American League Ball (Brown). The "Splendid Splinter" once said that his life's ambition was to one day walk down a street and have passersby say, "There goes the greatest hitter who ever lived." Some baseball experts would avow that Williams reached his goal. The Hall of Fame outfielder played his entire Major League career with the Boston Red Sox (1939-42 & 1946-60). He won six AL batting crowns, was a 2-time AL MVP, a 2-time Triple Crown winner, hit a lifetime .344, and blasted 521 home runs. Williams accomplished such an amazing list of accomplishments despite missing the equivalent of almost five seasons because of war service as a Marine pilot in both World War II and the Korean conflict. Williams remains the last player to hit at least .400 in the Major Leagues, reaching that hallowed mark when he hit .406 in the 1941 season. The Rawlings baseball is signed and inscribed by Williams on the sweet spot as, "Ted Williams/406." Williams neatly signed a big and bold signature with blue ballpoint ink. An unknown hand has printed, in black ink, "831/1941" on a side panel. The offering comes in an Upper Deck authentication bag, with an enclosed Upper Deck LOA and a numbered hologram seal and a matching number affixed to a COA. The ball is slightly toned and it comes in an Upper Deck Authenticated box.
