Rare original Type I photograph capturing Muhammad Ali in the ring immediately following his victory over Sonny Liston in their historic title rematch, held in Lewiston, Maine, on May 25, 1965. Referee Jersey Joe Walcott is pictured raising Ali's hand in victory as Liston looks on in disbelief.  The original paper news caption, dated "5/27/65" remains affixed to the reverse. Ali's knockdown of Liston, later called "The Phantom Punch," has always been controversial and the text of the caption reflects that. In part: "The fight aroused widespread demands for an inquiry and stirred new interest in the movement to place boxing under federal control." The photo (8x10") displays a few light creases throughout.
