Displayed is a 1984 Rusty Staub New York Mets road gray jersey. Daniel "Rusty" Staub was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1944. He had a 23-year MLB playing career as a right fielder, first baseman and designated hitter: Houston Colt .45s (1963-68), Montreal Expos (1969-71 & '79), New York Mets (1972-75 & 1981-85), Detroit Tigers (1976-79), Texas Rangers (1980).  He is the only Major Leaguer in history to have had 500 hits for four different teams: Houston, Montreal, New York Mets, and Detroit. The 6-time All-Star had 2,716 hits, with 292 home runs and a career .279 batting average. While with the Montreal Expos in their first seasons as a National League expansion team, Staub spoke French with the fans, was a top power hitter and became enormously popular. Known as Rusty, because of his orange/red hair, since he was a child, Montreal fans nicknamed the big slugger as "le Grand Orange" (the Big Orange). In 1984, when this jersey was game used, Staub was used mostly as a pinch hitter, and he batted .264 for the year.

The offered jersey has a Rawlings manufacturer's tag in the neck, showing size "48." Also, in the neck: A tag showing "2-inch extra length" and a "SET 1 1984" tag and a strip tag reading "10 84 1." Across the chest is "METS" in blue sewn-on script with orange trim. Beneath this, on the left side is "10" in blue sewn-on numerals with orange trim. Across the back is a sewn-on gray nameplate, with "STAUB" in blue sewn-on letters with orange trim. Under the player's name is "10" in sewn-on blue numerals with orange trim. The sleeves and sides have thick blue and orange piping. Staub signed the jersey on the right chest, using a blue marker to craft a big and bold signature. The jersey exhibits very light use and it is in EXCELLENT condition. The offering comes with a full LOA from PSA (for the signature only).
