A Boston Red Sox jersey worn by pitcher Mike Torrez during the 1979 season. The collar tag of the white number 21 jersey shows that it was made by Wilson and is a size 48. An additional tag that reads "79" for the year, is stitched onto the front tail. The garment shows nice signs of use with loose threads and small dirt stains. The name Mele is written on the rear tail as Sam Mele, a scout for the team, wore the jersey after Torrez. Notably, the pitcher was the last player to wear number 21 for the Red Sox prior to Roger Clemens and no player since Clemens has been given number 21. Torrez was one of the better pitchers in the American League during the '70s and he finished his career with 185 wins and a 3.96 ERA.
