Original Type I photograph capturing Bill Russell during his 1956-57 rookie season with the Boston Celtics. The posed image pictures Russell dribbling a basketball as he looks directly into the camera. This photo, along with two other Bill Russel Type I photos in this auction, was just recently discovered in the personal collection of a former New England sports photographer and has never before been offered for sale, either publicly or privately (submitted to PSA by Lelands).

A "Providence Journal Co." credit stamp appears on the reverse, along with a date stamp reading "Dec 31 57." Russell's name is written in pencil below the date stamp. The photo (8x10") displays a few light surface wrinkles, as well as minor editorial outlining and shading to Russell's image. An area of adhesive residue remains on the reverse. Encapsulated as Type I Authentic by PSA.
