Rabbit Maranville, a Hall of Famer, was a superb defensive shortstop who played 23 seasons in the National League, a record when he retired after the 1935 season. Displayed is a Rabbit Maranville signed and inscribed index card. Maranville played 15 seasons with the Boston Braves (1912-20 & 1929-33 & 1935), and also for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs, Brooklyn Robins, and St. Louis Cardinals. He batted a career .258, with 2,605 hits. He was a key player on the 1914 World Champion Boston Braves, batting clean-up despite hitting only .246, with very little power. On a 3.25x5.5" government postcard, writing in black ink from a fountain pen, Maranville inscribed and signed the blank side, "'Yours in Sports'/Rabbit Maranville." Maranville's script is neat and large. The postcard has some darkening and foxing and a few very small stains, ones that do not affect the inscription and signature. The postcard was postmarked on March 31, 1949, in New York City, and it was written to a fan in Long Beach, California. The postcard has been encapsulated and given a PSA/DNA AUTO GRADE as "MINT 9."
