Napoleon "Nap" Lajoie was a Hall of Fame second baseman who won four batting crowns. Presented is a Napoleon Lajoie full name cut autograph. Lajoie played in the Major Leagues from 1896-1914: Philadelphia Phillies (1896-1900), Philadelphia Athletics (1901-02 & 1915-16), Cleveland Blues/Napoleons/Naps (1902-14). Because of a dispute over who won the 1910 AL batting title, Lajoie is sometimes credited with five batting crowns. In that 1910 season, Lajoie and Cobb were striving for the batting crown and a new Chalmers auto that would be awarded to the winner. Because Cobb was unpopular with opposing players and Lajoie was popular, in an end-of-season doubleheader against the St. Louis Browns, the St. Louis team played its third baseman back so far, he was technically on the outfield grass, and Lajoie bunted for numerous hits. Both players were awarded Chalmers cars, and to this day the 1910 AL batting title is in dispute. Lajoie batted a lifetime .338, with 82 home runs, 3,243 hits, and 380 stolen bases. Lajoie also managed Cleveland from 1905-09. Because of his leadership, terrific skill, and popularity, the Cleveland franchise was called the "Napoleons" from 1903-05 and the "Naps" from 1906-14. Lajoie's best season was in 1901, when he led the new American League in numerous categories, including: batting average (.426), home runs (14), RBIs (125), hits (232), OBP (.463), slugging (.643), and OPS (1.106). The cut signature is on a piece of paper or light card stock measuring 2.75x3.9". Lajoie signed his full first and last names, as "Napoleon Lajoie" using black/blue ink from a fountain pen and signing in big and bold, flowing, beautiful script. An unknown hand has used fountain ink to date the signature as "3-3-32." The offering has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA CERTIFIED AS "AUTHENTIC AUTO."
