The 1928 Philadelphia Athletics had a team packed with famous Hall of Famers and other stars, and the team had an outstanding 98-55 record, but the Athletics finished second in that season's pennant race to the New York Yankees (101-53). Offered is a Philadelphia Athletics 1928 team-signed Official American League Ball (Johnson), with twenty-one (21) signatures. Hall of Famers: Ty Cobb, Tris Speaker, Lefty Grove, Al Simmons, and Eddie Collins. Plus, Max Bishop, Jack Quinn, Bing Miller, Jimmy Dykes, Mule Haas, George Earnshaw, Joe Hassler, Ike Powers, Walter French, Joe Bush, Rube Walberg, Howard Ehmke, Joe Hauser, Lefty Yerkes, Ossie Orwoll, and Joe Boley. Signing on the sweet spot: Max Bishop, Tris Speaker, and Jack Quinn. Simmons batted .351 that season; Cobb, at age 41, hit .323, Collins, as a pinch hitter, batted .303, and Grove led the AL with 24 wins. The signatures are signed in black or blue ink and average 6-7/10. The ball appears to have a light, clear coat of shellac - an addition that does not interfere with the clarity of the signatures. The signed ball comes with a PSA/DNA LOA, and the letter states that the says Ed Barrow signature is a facsimile, but, contrary to the PSA/DNA LOA, it's actually an Ernest Barnard signature.
