Naismith signed the print, "To Percy Cordie of Almonte, With Best Wishes, James Naismith, Almonte Ont., Lawrence Kans." Naismith was born in Almonte, Ontario, and is best known as the inventor of basketball. He moved from Canada to the United States where he invented the original basketball rule book, and founded the University of Kansas basketball team in 1898. He is a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, and the College Basketball Hall of Fame.
