Displayed is a team-signed photograph of the Chicago White Sox - 1959 American League Champions - with twenty-eight (28) signatures. The '59 White Sox, known as the "Go-Go Sox" for their base stealing and daring base running, went 94-60-2 to win the AL pennant, but they lost in six games to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. The signatures, signed in mostly blue or black ink, with one red signature, have been signed with a variety of pens and markers. Primary subjects: Hall of Famers Luis Aparicio, Early Wynn (300-game winner), and Al Lopez (Hall of Fame manager). Other primary subjects: Ted Kluszewski, Dick Donovan, Earl Battey, and Billy Pierce. Plus, Earl Torgeson, Ray Arias, Ray Berres, John Cooney (coach), Tony Cuccinello (coach), Sam Esposito, Billy Goodman, Don Gutteridge, Jim Landis, Barry Latman, Turk Lown, Jim McAnany, Ken McBride, Ray Moore, Bubba Phillips, Jim Rivera, Johnny Romano, Bob Shaw, Al Smith, Jerry Staley, and Joe Stanka. An amazing and nearly complete representation, the signatures were lovingly compiled during the 1980s. Most of the signers are now deceased, and the signatures rate 8-9/10. Two of the White Sox stars in '59 were shortstop Aparicio, with 50 steals, and pitcher Early Wynn, who went 22-10. The 8x10"photo is in black & white. The photo exhibits some very slight darkening, not noticeable on the team photo itself, but slightly apparent on the list of players below the team image. Unlike most team photos, the variety of writing implements and colors of ink make all the autographs contrast well. A signed and nearly complete '59 White Sox team photo is very rare, and it makes a wonderful display.
