Displayed is a signed photograph of Walter O'Malley, the Hall of Fame baseball owner who moved the Brooklyn Dodgers to Los Angeles for the 1957 season. O'Malley was born in the Bronx, in New York City, and he grew up a fan of the New York Giants. Born to a political family, O'Malley graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, studied engineering, and later became an attorney. He became the attorney for the Brooklyn Dodgers and was a part owner of the team, and then through various maneuvers, became the majority owner. In the early to mid-1950s, O'Malley felt that the Dodgers were trapped at Ebbets Field, with a ballpark that only held about 32,000 fans and had parking for only 700 cars. The ballpark and the neighborhood around it were deteriorating and O'Malley sought a new, domed stadium in downtown Brooklyn. Robert Moses, in charge of urban planning for New York City, felt the Dodgers should move to a new stadium in Queens, near where the Mets' Citi Field is located now. Eventually, neither O'Malley nor Moses would budge, so O'Malley took the Dodgers to Los Angeles. Many Brooklyn fans never forgave O'Malley for moving the Dodgers out of Brooklyn. The black & white photo measures 7.75x10". O'Malley signed the photo in a neatly written bold signature, in black marker. The photograph has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA Certified as AUTHENTIC AUTO. The photo is in EXCELLENT condition.
